FACTS is offering a sewing and creative club for tweens and teens aged 10 to 15. Through different weekly projects we will teach elements of design, both hand and machine sewing skills, and creative problem solving within a sharing environment. Our goal is to encourage participants to express themselves through their own designs, styling and creativity while having lots of fun. Projects will include simple garments, accessories, jewellery, fashion design projects and fabric dyeing and painting.
The club is lead by Jennifer Triemstra-Johnston, a costume designer with over 25 years experience in costume and fashion design and construction. Jennifer is the owner of Pick a Posie Costume Shop in Blyth and the director of the Fashion Arts & Creative Textiles Studio (FACTS). She believes that sewing and fibre arts are a great way to foster community and learn valuable life and creative skills while having a lot of fun.
Fashion is part of our everyday lives. It is how we express ourselves and define who we are. What better way to explore the world of self expression than by learning about how to design and create clothes and accessories for yourself. Sewing and fibre arts is both a meditative and social practice that will introduce your child to skills and creativity that will stay with them throughout their lives.
