Imagine using the sun, some flowers, water and a few simple ingredients to dye your own special pillowcase. Join us at the market on August 20th to create your very own solar dyeing jar. We will set your jar in the sun for the week and then on August 27th, the magic of solar dyeing will be revealed! On the 27th you will pull your pillowcase out of the jar and unroll it to see the pretty patterns made from solar dyeing.
Additional solar dyeing kits will be available for purchase at the market.
Pre-registration is encouraged!
This is an outdoor event.
No experience necessary and all materials are provided.
When: Thursdays, August 20th and 27th 10am to 2pm
Where: FACTS Gallery & Creative Space, 441 Queen St., Blyth
Workshop Cost: $15 per pillowcase
This class is led by Jennifer Triemstra-Johnston who is the director of the Fashion Arts & Creative Textiles Studio (FACTS).
Jennifer has been interested in natural dyeing as alternative to using synthetic dyes for dyeing fabric and fibre since she started teaching dyeing for university students 15 years ago. She loves experimenting with food scraps, flowers and plants from her dye garden and surrounding landscape.
There is something so satisfying about taking the time to develop colours taken from your own backyard and discovering the natural dye palette that exists in your own natural environment.
When: Thursdays, August 20th and 27th 10am to 2pm
Where: FACTS Gallery & Creative Space, 441 Queen St., Blyth
