Stay warm and cozy with Two Thumbs Up! mittens this winter. Created by two retired school teachers, the mittens are made from felted up-cycled wool sweaters and lined with new soft, comfy fleece. There are so many fun designs to choose from as Two Thumbs Up! utilizes all the parts of the sweaters in their designs including patterns, pockets, buttons and embellishments. They even use the ribbed cuffs and hems of sweaters to create coordinating cuffs on the mitts. There is a pair to suit everyone’s style from whimsical to classic.
By purchasing this product made from previously loved sweaters, you are supporting sustainable fashion practices by extending the life cycle of textiles that were headed to landfill.
Choose a pair for yourself or send a pair to someone whose hands you wish you could warm this winter.
Hand wash in warm water and air dry.
Vicki McDonald and Leslie Dakin have strong ties to Huron-Perth, having been teachers with the AMDSB throughout their careers. In the classroom, Vicki and Leslie enjoyed collaborating on creative projects for their students. Retired and looking for new ways to “scratch their creative itch,” they hit upon the idea of making mittens from upcycled wool sweaters and Two Thumbs Up! was born. They enjoy cutting up sweaters and matching colours and patterns to make cozy mittens lined with fleece. With the winter weather upon us, it’s back to the cutting mats and sewing machines to produce more unique and beautiful mittens.
We’ll let you know about our upcoming exhibits, classes and workshops.
