What project do you want to work on at this year’s Holiday Handcrafting Weekend? We have a great variety of projects for you to choose from. Techniques include embroidery, felting, crocheting and fabric dyeing and decoration. Read the following descriptions to help you decide. You can move from station to station and introduce yourself to all of the techniques or stay in one place and concentrate on one project. The day costs $60 to attend ($40 for youth aged 10 to 15) plus the materials costs for the projects you decide to create. Materials fees are charged at the end of the event but we strongly recommend you book the workshop in advance as there are a limited number of spots available.
Kathy White will be working with a different medium for her Holiday Handcrafting workshop this year by leading a workshops in embroidered stars. These lovely grey stars have an old fashioned feel to them and would be perfect as an ornament or as decoration on top of a wrapped present. Learn the basics of embroidery and make your very own embroidered star. Materials: $5 a star.
Would you like to needle felt a feathered friend? Jennifer Osborn from All Sorts Acres is returning for her third Holiday Handcrafting Weekend at FACTS! This year she is offering a sculptural based needle felting workshop in which you will learn how to needle felt cute Canadian birds like the blue jay or chickadee. Perfect as a stocking stuffer for the bird lover in your family. Materials: $10 a bird.
What is a Sasket you might ask? A stunning crocheted basket with handles that can be used as the perfect container for Christmas goodies, a gift or functional piece of home decor. Irene Kellins from Stitches with a Twist will walk you through the crochet stitches and pattern needed to create this fun and flexible sasket. Materials $15.
Do you want to wrap up a gift in something fun? Create a large gift bag from a pillowcase with different fabric dyeing and decorating techniques. You are welcome to bring your own old white cotton pillow cases to transform or purchase new ones from FACTS. The pillowcases are a great example of sustainable gift wrap as they can be used again and again, either as wrapping or a festive pillowcase. Jennifer Triemstra-Johnston will lead you through this fun and creative process. $4 if you bring your own pillowcase, $10 for a new pillowcase.
