Creating Your Style – The Great Closet Clean Out

A new season, a new look?
Are your closets and drawers full of stuff you never wear?
Whether you need some new looks, dealing with the physical and emotional affects of our tumultuous world or just ready to switch it up a bit, Creating Your Style – The Great Closet Clean Out will offer new ways of thinking about fashion, fit and comfort as you dress yourself. During these 4 online conversations, costume designer, stylist and wardrobe consultant Jennifer Triemstra-Johnston will guide you through examining your current wardrobe and help you determine how to move forward with your own personal style. We will explore four themes: A Good Foundation, Shop Your Closet, Creating Your Style and finally Your Fashion Future. Every week Jennifer will offer up questions and exercises to help you figure out your style and how to organize your clothing and accessories. By the end of the 4th week, you will have the tools to help you clean out your closet and find what you really want to wear.
Sessions will be recorded if you can’t make it to every to every talk.

Jennifer has been dressing people for over 30 years. Although the majority of her career has focused on costume design for theatre, opera and dance, Jennifer has helped people dress for special events and worked as a personal stylist as well.

As a costume designer, Jennifer’s job is to make performers look beautiful, feel great and be comfortable no matter what kind of physical feats they perform on stage. Since opening her vintage and second-hand clothing shop Pick a Posie a few years ago, Jennifer has discovered that she loves helping people discover their own sense of style and makes comfort and fit a priority in her client’s purchases. After several requests, Jennifer is now offering online workshops and personal clothing consultation, fitting and styling services.

Jennifer Triemstra-Johnston holds a BFA in Theatre Production and Design from York University and an MA Fashion from Ryerson University. Since 1995, Jennifer has worked across Ontario as a costume designer, creating costumes for over 175 theatre, dance and opera productions.
In 2013 Jennifer was granted her MA in Fashion from the Ryerson University School of Fashion. Her published MRP was titled Challenging the Fast Fashion Product: A Method for Use-Value Apparel Design.

For the past twenty years, as part-time faculty, Jennifer has taught costume and apparel design and construction classes for various universities including the Ryerson School of Fashion, the Ryerson Theatre School, and York University Theatre and Dance Departments. Her classes have included: costume design, fashion design, pattern making, draping, construction, millinery, corsetry, accessories, specialty building, painting and dyeing.

Currently Jennifer owns and manages two different social enterprises in Blyth Ontario. Pick a Posie Vintage is a second-hand vintage and eclectic fashion shop that offers one of a kind pieces as well as custom design services. The Fashion Arts & Creative Textiles Studio (FACTS) is an innovative hub that offers classes and workshops at both the community and professional level in fibre arts.
