Have you ever wanted to design your own clothing? Now is your chance with our Create a Cape Class. Choose your own design, fabrics, trims and details and build a one-of-a-kind cape to suit your style. Whether you want a historic look, something for the holidays or a sleeker, contemporary style, instructor Jennifer Triemstra-Johnston will guide you through creating your very own unique garment.
During this class series you will learn how to design and draft patterns for circle and a-line capes. Design details such as collars, hoods, arm slits, pockets and closures will be included in your pattern development. Appropriate fabrics, linings, notions and trims will be discussed and then you will have the opportunity to make the design choices for your own personal cape.
Jennifer will offer step by step instructions and demonstrate different techniques related to cape design and construction so that you fully understand how a cape is created from start to finish.
Basic sewing machine skills are required for this class. If you need an introductory sewing lesson or a refresher class, please contact FACTS and a private lesson with Jennifer can be arranged.
Sewing machines will be provided at the studio for this class, along with all other basic supplies required. You are welcome to bring your own machine if you prefer, as well as your own fabric and paper scissors.
